A New High Performance Elastomer Composition,

Abstract

A new high performance elastomeric composite comprising EPM or EPDM, a functional organo poly-siloxane and a reinforcing silica filler has been developed. The high performance characteristics, intermediate between silicone and EPDM, are achieved through selected chemical interaction. The mechanism to accomplish compatability of the composite components will be discussed. These composites are identified as SEP for the principal components silicone and EPDM. The major high performance features are higher tensile strength than silicone and higher heat resistance than EPDM. Also weather and moisture resistance, mechanical strength at elevated temperatures, electrical stability, flame resistance and good compression recovery at low temperatures are features of SEP.
