Length Limitations of Far-End Crosstalk Measurements in Multipair Telephone Cables,

Abstract

Far-End Crosstalk testing of production length cables is subject to possible measurement errors especially at the 6300 KHz test frequency of Bellcore TA series cable specifications. Cable attenuation at high frequencies and long lengths can reduce the signal level seen by the measuring system. As the signal levels approach the measurement system's noise level, error is introduced into the measurements. Relative Signal Level curves are described which aid in determining if errors due to measuring system noise floor effects are present. (Author)
