Carriage of External Stores,

Abstract

In this lecture we will consider the main interactions between the external stores and fighter aircraft as a whole. Since our context is that of fighter design, we will concentrate on understanding the magnitude of those effects which can be chosen by designers. The first part will deal with the factors that affect the overall value of a fighter air-force as a whole, so that we can appreciate the sensitivity of value to these factors. Then we will go on to consider the influence of the separate factors: Drag and other installed forces, Trajectory testing in wind tunnels, Stability and flutter, Agility, and Airframe/Store Integration.
