Calculation of Elastic-Plastic Wave Propagation on the Connection Machine,

Abstract

This paper describes the parallel algorithms and data structures for implementing a 2-D multi-material kernel of the wave-propagation code HULL on a Connection Machine. Computational performance is illustrated for a rod-plate impact problem with material strength described through an elastic-perfectly plastic formulation. The hydrodynamic behavior of materials is modeled via the gamma law and Mie-Gruneisen equations of state.
