Systems Science in Support of Total Quality Management,

Abstract

Systems science provides additional tools to augment the TQM tool kit. This relatively new science and its basic four foci are introduced. The Conant-Ashby Theorem, from system science, is addressed and application is made through the organizational system model and the operational system model. Systems science has much to offer Total Quality Management (TQM). This paper bridges the gap between these two subjects to illustrate specific means by which systems science can begin to augment TQM. This construction is based upon the consideration of two topics. First, a brief introduction to systems science is provided. Second, systems science is applied through the concept of the Conant-Ashby Theorem.
