Combined Effect of Self-Phase Modulation and Dispersion in SLA Post-Amplified Transmission Systems,

Abstract

In this paper we consider the performance implications of using semiconductor laser amplifiers (SLAs) as post-transmitter power amplifiers in long-haul directly modulated optical systems operating in the 1.55um region. The combined effect of the dispersion, nonlinear self phase modulation, attenuation and the inherent SLA nonlinearity is numerically investigated.
