Intense Field Nonresonant Multiphoton Absorption of Diatomic Molecules,

Abstract

We report on the multiple photon ionization and dissociation of hydrogen, deuterium, and deuterium hydride molecules in intense (8 x 10 to the 11th - 4 x 10 to the 13th W/sq. cm.) laser fields. The three isotopes give some insight into the intermediate states involved in the photoionization process. Our results support the dressed molecule picture at least qualitatively but differences de exist with the quantitative predictions.
