Fast Optical Triggering and Wavelength Switching using a Distributed Bragg Reflector Laser with a Saturable Absorber,

Abstract

An integrated wavelength converter based on a DBR laser including a saturable absorber is presented. Optical triggering with nanosecond response time has been recorded with 100 uW optical control power. Also, 1 ns duration wavelength switching between two adjacent modes has been achieved.
