Advances In Lens-Fed Multibeam Technology,

Abstract

The Rotman lens, or more appropriately the Gent lens, was first demonstrated in 1956 by Gent, Jones, and Brown. In 1958, Rotman and Turner applied multibeam technology in an Early Warning Radar as reported by Hatcher of Chu Associates in 1960. Raytheon's Don Archer and George Monser applied the concept in 1969. In 1972, a system was flight-tested in the leading-edge of an F-4 aircraft. By then, the technology was advanced from the simple probe-feed lenses to the printed high-K lens of reduced size.
