Ultrashort Pulse Amplification in Erbium Doped Fibre Amplifiers,

Abstract

Erbium-doped optical fibres displaying broad gain bandwidth centered at the wavelength of minimum loss and negative group velocity dispersion make almost the ideal media for generation and amplification femtosecond range optical pulses. Several authors have studied both theoretically and experimentally the amplification of ultrashort pulses in such devices and have noted that not only resonant properties of fibre amplifier but also the Raman self-frequency shift are responsible for the net gain and pulse duration at the output of an amplifier.
