Spectral Holes Under Pressure: Proteins and Glasses,

Abstract

Pressure tuning of spectral holes provides, in a way, a link between gas phase and solid state spectroscopy. Generally speaking, the shift of a spectral hole under isotropic pressure conditions, allows for a determination of three system parameters. These are: the vacuum frequency v sub vac of the molecular probe, the solvent shift v sub s with the probe experiences when embedded into a lattice and the compressibility k of the base material.
