Conformational Role of Gly Residues in Transmembrane Segments of Wild Type and Mutant M13 Coat Proteins,

Abstract

Despite their presumed alpha-helical conformations, the transmembrane (TM) segments of many integral membrane proteins contain a significant content of Gly residues - ostensibly strong 'helix-breakers' (at least for soluble proteins) on the Chou-Fasman scale.
