Conformational Studies of the Amyloid Protein of Alzheimer's Disease,

Abstract

The presence of extracellular amyloid plaque is characteristic of the Alzheimer's disease (AD) brain. The amyloid consists of a 42 amino acid protein known as the beta protein, in reference to the fact that the plaque contains regular cross-beta fibrillar structure as observed by X-ray fiber diffraction.
