Chaos in Ocean Physics,

Abstract

Three topics relating to chaotic ocean physics are discussed. These are (1) low order El Nino dynamics, (2) lateral stirring processes, and (3) linear ocean waves in the geometric limit. Each topic is discussed separately, emphasis, in each case, is given to the manner in which idea associated with chaos and low-order dynamical systems complement more traditional approaches to the same problem.
