A Laser Traversing Technique for the Measurement of Velocity Profiles in Unsteady Pipe Flows,

Abstract

The purpose of this work was to investigate the possible advantages of continuously traversing an LDV to obtain velocity profiles in unsteady pipe flows. Two cases were considered, the successful and efficient measurement of which has supported the soundness of the method: an impulsively started pipe flow showing the evolution from 'top hat' to parabolic velocity profiles, and the occurrence of transition in the same type of flow subjected to finite disturbances.
