Measurements of Flow Mechanism in Fluidic Gas Meters by LDV,

Abstract

Three major Japanese gas companies have cooperated in a joint research program to develop the fluidic gas flowmeter, a fluid oscillation type gas flowmeter with an accuracy of + or - 1.5%. The present study reports on principal flow mechanisms in the fluidic gas flowmeter investigated by the use of LDV. Flow measurements using LDV enabled flow visualization at a high oscillating frequency of 40 Hz, which was difficult to obtain by conventional flow visualization methods. Detailed flow characteristics of the oscillating flow in the fluidic gas meter were measured by LDV, which enables flow visualization. The results of measurements show very complex now oscillation phenomena, especially in flow direction variation of the inlet jets. (Author)
