Measurement of Microvascular Blood Flow Velocity by a Fiber-Optic Laser-Doppler Anemometer Microscope,

Abstract

A fiber-optic laser-Doppler anemometer microscope (FLDAM) was developed to measure the red cell velocity in microvessels with diameters ranging from 5 micrometers to 100 micrometers. The temporal resolution of the FLDAM is sufficiently high to measure the pulsatile velocity in microlevels synchronous with the heart beat. The FDLAM also exhibits sufficient spatial resolution to obtain the velocity distribution in microvessels. (Author)
