LDA Measurements of the Flow Field About an Isolated Sphere in Swirling Flow,

Abstract

Experiments in swirled flow about a sphere where the flow has been stimulated upstream creating increased turbulence, showed a different flow pattern compared to the case where the flow had not been simulated. It was found that the stimulated swirled flow gave attached flow on both the upstream and downstream hemispheres. Velocities about and pressures on the sphere have been measured and the results are presented. A high drag force is produced. (Author)
