PIV Measurements of Turbulent and Chaotic Structures in a Rotating Flow Using an Optical Correlator,

Abstract

An investigation of structures in a rotating flow in a closed cylinder by implementing PIV measurements and visualizations which are performed with Reynolds numbers ranging from 3000 to 8000; whereby, an attempt is made to study the time evolution of the flow. The PIV images are processed using an all optical correlator based on a photorefractive BSO crystal and a numerical correlator. A compact design of an all optical correlator is presented. (Author)
