Optical Fibre Laser Interferometry for Heat Flux Measurements on Turbomachinery Components in Transient Flow Wind Tunnels,

Abstract

A heat flux measurement system comprising a laser diode, a single mode optical fibre interferometer and passive optical fibre components has been constructed. The system has been designed for use in transient flow wind tunnels and has a resolution of 1 kW m(-2), a dynamic range of 20 MW m(-2) and bandwidth > 100 kHZ. As well as describing the operating principles of the system, results of a wind tunnel evaluation are presented. (Author)
