Intraocular Lenses in Military Aircrew

Abstract

Modern advances in microsurgical procedures performed on the human eye distinctly stand out as one of the most, if not the most, dramatic advances in medical sciences over the last 75 years. Cataract surgery has emerged as one of the most common surgical procedures regardless of surgical subspecialty. Although attempts to "surgically" remove cataractous lenses can literally be traced back for thousands of years, visual rehabilitation post operatively would not reach its zenith until development of the intraocular lens (IOL).
