Fatigue Substantiation and Damage Tolerance Evaluation of Fiber Composite Helicopter Components

Abstract

Helicopter rotor systems are dynamically loaded structures with many composite components such as main and tail rotor blades and rotor hubs. The new civil helicopter EC135 has a bearingless main rotor system certified according to the "Special Condition for Primary Structures Designed with Composite Material" of the German airworthiness authority LBA containing increased safety demands.
