Maintaining COTS-Based Systems

Abstract

After deployment, all software systems require an extensive and expensive phase of maintenance and management regardless of whether they are COTS-based or custom built. Understanding how COTS- based systems are maintained, and why they are different from custom-built systems, can lead to systems that are better and more cost-effective over their lifetime.
