An Overview of Information Fusion

Abstract

This paper provides an introduction to and overview of the field of information fusion within a wider data and information fusion and processing context. It starts by considering the aims and objectives of research and development programs in this area. In particular asking what are we trying to achieve by such fusion from the end user point of view. The main emphasis of the paper is on military systems and reference is made to work at the United Kingdom's Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) for examples but the paper has more general relevance.
