Compositional Dependence of the Optical Properties of The Ge-Se-Ga Glasses

Abstract

Optical properties of the glasses from the systems with a constant ratio of Ge/Se and different concentrations of gallium are investigated. The spectral dependence of the absorption coefficient a, is calculated from transmission spectra. The optical band gap, Eg4, found to increase with the addition of gallium. This variation is explained by the increase of the average bond energy that occurs with the addition of Ga into the alloys. The optical constants, were also calculated from the transmission spectra, using a method proposed by Swanepoel.
