Polyharmonic Splines in Rd: Tools for Fast Evaluation

Abstract

As is well known, hierarchical and fast multipole-like methods can greatly reduce the storage and operation counts for fitting and evaluating radical basis functions. This paper outlines some of the mathematics required to implement methods of these types fro polyharmonic splines in R and d, d even, that is for splines s corresponding to phi chosen from the list.
