Interpolating Polynomial Macro-Elements with Tension Properties

Abstract

In this paper we present the construction of nine-parameter polynomial macro elements, based on the classical Powell-Sabin split, which can be connected to form a C(sup 1) surface. Variable degrees, which act as independent tension parameters, are associated with any vertex of the triangulation, i.e., to any interpolation point.
