Multi-Level Approximation to Scattered Data Using Inverse Multiquadrics

Abstract

A method of finding local approximations is used to thin data before a hierarchical iterative refinement scheme is employed in conjunction with domain decomposition. The interpolation problem on each sub-domain is solved by using the same stored inverse. The approximation power of the inverse multiquadric is exploited whilst overcoming the computational difficulties associated with globally supported basis functions.
