Effect of Species-Dependent Surface Atomic Mobility on Pattern Selection During Alloy Growth

Abstract

The steady state phase diagram applies to any alloy. We show a possibility to form 2D structures with arbitrary small wavelength and explain commonly observed 2D structures modulated in ?100! and ?010! directions. Kinetic phase transition between the growth of 1D structure and the growth of 2D structure provides a possibility to time the structure between 1D and 2D ones at arbitrary scale by varying temperature and/or growth velocity.
