A Dynamic Procedure for Calculating the Turbulent Kinetic Energy

Abstract

We propose a dynamic model based on the Germano identities to evaluate the subgrid scale energy <k-bar> in LES as a function of the large scale velocity field only. Contrary to traditional transport equation for k-bar, this model does not require any additional equation and provide a very simple first approximation for k-bar.
