Nonlinear Multiscale Transformations: From Synchronization to Error Control

Abstract

Data-dependent interpolatory techniques can be used in the reconstruction step of a multiresolution "a la Harten". These interpolatory techniques lead to nonlinear multiresolution schemes. When dealing with nonlinear algorithms, the issue of the stability needs to be carefully considered. In this paper we analyze and compare several strategies for image compression and their ability to effectively control the global error due to compression.
