Functionally Graded Materials VII

Abstract

Functionally graded materials (FGMs) exhibit spatial variations, in composition and/or microstructure, which have been imposed for the specific purpose of controlling the resultant variations in the thermal, structural or functional properties. During the past 20 years, the concept of FGMs has spread into almost every traditional technological and/or scientific field and many commercial applications have been developed. This book comprises 161 papers (including 14 invited lectures) which were presented at the Seventh International Symposium on Functionally Graded Materials, held in Beijing, China, and covers almost every aspect of the field, including: structural applications, thin films and coatings, bio-medical materials and their applications, energy conversion devices, materials for information technology, eco-materials, nano-FGMs, modeling and simulation, testing and characterization, industrial applications and commercialization, etc. The book provides an excellent overview of the latest scientific and technological results in the field of FGMs and related fields.
