Autonomous Navigation Technology
Abstract
This Project investigates use of sensors on the platform and available navigation signals to the localization and decision making of Robotic/Autonomous Systems. Additionally, it examines the use of machine learning algorithms for cooperative navigation to aid in a Positioning, Navigation and Timing (PNT) solution. This will enable the user to achieve operational overmatch in a Global Positioning System (GPS) impeded environment as well as enhanced navigation (reducing dependence on GPS) through challenging terrains. This project investigates and develops techniques and algorithms to provide assured access to PNT in degraded electromagnetic (jamming), space, or cyber environments and notify Soldiers, Systems, and Platforms when PNT cannot be trusted for mission duration Research in this Project complements Program Element (PE) 0603463A (Network C3I Advanced Technology) / Project AV8 (Navigation Warfare (NAVWAR) Advanced Technology). The cited research is consistent with the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering priority focus areas and the Army Modernization Strategy. Research in this Project is performed by the United States Army Futures Command.
