155mm HE Rocket Assist Project Extended Range

Abstract

The 155 millimeter (mm) High Explosive (HE) Rocket Assisted Projectile, Extended Range Project supports the development of materiel solutions to meet the Army's long range precision fires modernization strategy. This Project supports projectile development efforts to achieve ranges of 40 kilometers (km) in current artillery weapon systems (39 caliber tube length) and characterize longer ranges in future artillery weapon systems (58 caliber tube length Extended Range Cannon Artillery, (ERCA). These efforts will leverage enhanced lethality cannon munition technologies to compensate for increased rocket motor volume. The projectile body will be filled with an insensitive munition (IM) HE and a supplementary charge to improve soldier survivability. Fiscal Year (FY) 2021 funding supports the Urgent Materiel Release (UMR) activities of XM1113 including fire control software integration and development and qualification testing for current artillery systems. FY 2021 funding will also support the continuation of characterization activities required for a projectile concept compatible with the ERCA weapon systems to achieve the Army's requirement of extended range lethality with precision accuracy by FY 2023.
