Autonomous Adaptation and Trust

Abstract

The aim of this research proposal is to study the evolution of trust in mixed initiative tasks when a robot partner adapts autonomously to a changing environment. The two major research challenges are: to develop a robot capable of learning and adapting to changes in the task environment that the robot has not previously experienced, and to model and measure the evolving trust relationship between a human and a robot given different types of insight by the human into the robot s adaptation process.
