Metamaterials for optical and MW applications

Abstract

The objective of this project is to engineer metamaterials to have certain properties not found in nature such as negative refractive index, perfect absorbers, blackbody, selective emitter, cloaking, and superlensing, etc. The metamaterials can increase resistance of devices to heat and wear, which is particularly effective when operating in extreme environments. These metamaterials will have a wide range of application including increasing the effectiveness of conventional solar power generation systems and the next generation of de-icing on surfaces such as aircraft, wind turbine blades, and large structures.
