Scaling diamond Raman lasers and beam combiners into the kilowatt, thermally-affected, regime

Abstract

The specific objectives of this 2-year project are to demonstrate: 1. Increase diamond Raman laser power from 0.4 kW to >1 kW; (Yrs 1-2) 2. Characterize temperature profile and phonon decay mechanisms; (Yrs 1-2) 3. Develop novel beam combination strategies for power scaling; (Yr 2) 4. Demonstrate a high power (100W) laser suited for applications in laser guide stars. (Yr 2)
