The Development of Nitroxide Based Coatings for Biofilm Remediation - 154020

Abstract

The objective of this research is to develop new chemical approaches to prepare smart polymeric coatings that will discourage bacterial attachment and ensure greater long-term control over biofilm growth and thus mitigate biofilm formation in fuel systems. The major goals of this work are to understand the chemistry behind the ability of nitroxides to inhibit and disperse biofilms and to develop strategies to immobilize and release nitroxides from a range of materials, including those used in aircraft fuel tanks.
