Development of fiber reinforced Infra-Red (IR) Light Activated Shape Memory Polymer (SMPs) MaterialsA framework for evaluation of structural performance, self-repairing capabilities and long-term be

Abstract

This project aims to create this new scientific understanding by:1. Determining the shape recovery and strength recovery of MWNT filled styrene based SMP and MWNT filled -elastomer, and their glass fibre reinforced composites by varying reinforcement (i.e. varying lay-up configurations etc).2. Ascertaining the functional parameters of external stimulus, in this case IR radiation for the shape recovery and recovery stress3. Evaluating the structural change, property degradation, and possible damage accumulation under thermo-mechanical cycles and dynamic loading.
