Light Trapping and Optical Confinement in III-V and Multi-Junction Solar Cells

Abstract

Interstitial light-trapping offers the opportunity to achieve highly radiation tolerant multijunctionsolar cells. The project takes the published concept of interstitial light trapping andseeks to make a practical demonstration of the technology, both in terms of its feasibility anddemonstrate enhanced radiation hardness in prototype devices. The project leverages theexpertise developed at Imperial College in computer simulation of photonic light trappingstructures in solar cells to support practical fabrication of prototype devices at the NavalResearch Laboratory.
