NANO/MICRO-PARTICLE AND RARE EARTH DOPED GLASSES FOR MID-INFRARED FIBER LASERS AND MICROLASERS

Abstract

This project is closely linked to the recently awarded Fulbright Scholarship to Prof Ravi Jain at the University of New Mexico to undertake research in the group of Prof Heike Ebendorff-Heidepriem (PI of this project) at the Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) at the University of Adelaide. The joint objective of this project and the Fulbright Scholarship project is to develop collaboratively advanced glass materials at IPAS at the University of Adelaide. The critical optical properties of these glasses will be tested at IPAS and at various external labs to evaluate their device level performance in fiber lasers and microlasers. Promising glasses developed in this project will be used to make optical fibers and microresonators. This project builds on the previous AOARD project FA2386-16-1-4068, led by the PI of this project.
