IMPROVED SIMULTANEOUS MAPPING OF PRESSURE AND STRAIN FOR HYPERSONIC FSI EXPERIMENTS
Abstract
Optical techniques such as the use of luminescent coatings sensitive to pressure and temperature have become the prominent measurement techniques to obtain full-field measurements of surface conditions in experimental hypersonic facilities. Recently, photoelastic coatings have been proposed to add the ability to globally map strain in such experiments. The main objective of this study is to simplify the operational procedure of two full-field measurement techniques – pressure sensitive paints (PSP) and photoelastic coatings (PEC) and use them to simultaneously map parameters that they are sensitive to. This will be achieved using a colour polarised camera and an intelligent post-processing algorithm to simultaneously obtain pressure and strain measurements with high spatial and temporal resolution. Further, this project will standardize and quantify the accuracy of the experimental procedures, thereby making the method more accessible to other researchers.
