ADVANCED REGIONAL AND GLOBAL NUMERICAL MODELLING OF THE IONOSPHERE TO SUPPORT SSA, HF RADAR AND COMMUNICATION

Abstract

Predicting variations in the ionosphere (an aspect of space weather) is vital to determining their impact on technology. Better understanding the physics underlying this variability is key to improving performance of numerous strategic technologies. This project proposes activities that will contribute towards development of future capabilities to model real time variations in the ionosphere. This is intended to seed the creation of a research group at UNSW, specifically focused on coupling advanced space environment modelling with Space Situational Awareness (SSA) capabilities.
