STUDY OF 3-D GLOBAL MHD SIMULATION WITH VARIOUS SOLAR WIND CONDITION

Abstract

Many observational and model studies are focused on the big events of the solar activity, resulting in a strong geomagnetic disturbance. However, disturbance in the space environment surrounding Earth can be caused by a transfer of the weak and steady solar wind. It is necessary to understand various phenomena since the changes in space environment occur not only during specific events but also under various conditions. The study will provide a comprehensive understanding of the magnetic field topology and magnetosphere and ionosphere response under various solar wind conditions by using a 3-D global MHD simulation. The study will find out the cause of the disturbance in space environment during a quiet solar wind condition in addition to extreme conditions. It will also demonstrate the effects of the CME structure (such as shock, sheath, and MFR) on the magnetosphere and ionosphere. Additionally, the simulation results will provide answers to when, where, and which magnetic reconnection and vortex (such as KH waves) occur in the magnetopause boundary by 3-D magnetic field topology and dynamics, plasma properties.
