Visible Integrated Photonics Enhanced Reality (VIPER)

Abstract

Develop a controllable optical phased array for the purposes of rapidly synthesizing a steerable optical beam in the far field for the purposes of ultimately directly projecting images onto the retina of a subject wearing Visible Integrated Photonics Enhanced Reality (VIPER) enabled goggles. The VIPER effort will involve the development of a direct-view near-eye augmented reality (AR) display enabled by a grid of actively steerable integrated photonic phased array pixels for directly reconstructing the wave fronts of virtual scenes.
