ULTRA COMPACT RECONFIGURABLE INTEGRATED PHOTONIC PHASE SHIFTERS

Abstract

This program seeks to develop the technologies necessary to demonstrate planar, millimeterscale, transmit & receive, non-mechanical beam steering optical phased arrays. The objective is to develop optical array element photonic integrated circuit unit cells with a high fill factor aperture and integrated amplification and tile unit cells, assembling a larger, coherent higherpower aperture. The scope of this effort is to advance silicon photonics integrated circuit phase shifter unit cell component to improve on bulk photonic devices currently used in optical beamforming systems and is needed to reduce C SWaP (Cost size weight and power ) by improving manufacturability.
