Training for Prevention/Resillience and Intervention (Pre-radicalization and Disengagement)

Abstract

The objective of this effort is to interview current and former white supremacists with military experience and/or who recruited and worked with people with military experience in their violent extremist groups, as well as interview Department of Defense stakeholders charged with preventing and countering radicalization to violent extremism in the ranks. To create counter narrative videos aimed at dissuading current and former military members from joining far-right and white supremacist violent extremist groups. To disseminate the counter narrative videos to active-duty troops and veterans, quantitatively and qualitatively measuring their reactions to and engagement with the videos; and to develop ten pilot “train the trainer” courses for military leaders at all levels aimed at creating a deeper understanding of the psychosocial mechanisms at play when military members join violent extremist groups and at informing effective prevention and intervention practices and policies.
