Diversity in Research and Engineering of Advanced Materials Training

Abstract

The High-Performance Materials Institute (HPMI) at the Florida State University will host a summer training program in Nanomaterials and Processing Engineering, sponsored through the Air Force Research Lab at Eglin AFB. This will be a continuation of the DREAM program funded since 2011. HPMI occupies a building of 45,000 sq ft space and equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentations in 13 labs and a high-bay manufacturing facility. The summer trainees will work under the supervision of HPMI principal investigators and work side-by-side with HPMI graduate research assistants and post-doctoral fellows. Dr. Okenwa Okoli will be the Program Director. In addition to on-site R&D activities at HPMI, each summer, two trips will be arranged for the trainees to interact with AFRL technical staff to further enrich their experience. The goal is to enhance the research experience in Science and Engineering of U.S. students in under-represented groups. Participants will work on R&D projects, with the aim of fulfilling requirements set in agreement with the AFRL.
