Pyrophoric Shock-Reacting Flows of Fire-Starting Battery Materials

Abstract

The University of Central Florida was awarded a grant for $100,000.00 to establish the fundamental limits of fire-starting materials and particles from battery fires and explosions. The scientific objective of the proposed research is to increase scientific understanding of the auto-ignition, reaction, and afterburning processes of fire-starting materials that occur with low density reactive material from batteries and loose reactive particles are dispersed by high-explosive changes using targeted turbulent-flow shock tube experiments. The research will demonstrate, validate, and distribute the state-of-the-art fundamental coupled experimental in the proposed work to Air Force Personnel.
