High-resolution miniature optical fiber sensors for turbulence detection and characterization

Abstract

Atmospheric turbulence generates fluctuations of the refractive index (optical turbulence) resulting in image blurring or increased focus size and wander of a laser beam. Turbulence, therefore, fundamentally limits the performance of laser and imaging systems. Understanding and accurately measuring atmospheric turbulence is thus of extreme importance for both laser systems and imaging applications.
